On What basis these are chosen

The criteria for selecting wonders were that they must be man-made structures, accessible to tourists and open to public scrutiny and praise. Seven criteria were established to evaluate possible sites. A site must represent a masterpiece of human creative genius, stand out from its surroundings and be a prototype or refer to an idea; it must also have had its construction finished prior to 2007 and hold a special significance for at least one billion people.

What is the Importance of Seven Wonders

The Seven Wonders are some of most magnificent creations in history, representing time and materials. The pyramids at Giza were built around 4,500 years ago and stood for 3,800 years, using 100 times more stone than all three Egyptian pyramids combined. Although there is some debate over exactly what makes a wonder (the list has grown with time), one thing is certain: these seven represent only a fraction of what is remarkable about our world.

Facts of Seven Wonders

The world has been around for many thousands of years, and over that time, it’s been home to all sorts of amazing sights, sounds, and experiences. As the name suggests, the Seven Wonders of the World were considered some of the most incredible things on Earth when they were first built thousands of years ago—and even today, they are still breathtaking sites to behold!

The 1st Wonder of the World – The Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid in Giza, Egypt is one of history’s greatest wonders. The pyramid, built sometime between 2580 and 2500 B.C., stands 481 feet tall and covers 13 acres.

It’s estimated that more than 2 million blocks were used to build it, some weighing as much as 15 tons each. Today, these impressive structures are one of Egypt’s leading tourist attractions — and they earned that spot on merit alone!

Although archaeologists still don’t know how pyramids were constructed with such astonishing precision or how they were so precisely aligned with astronomical events, they do know a lot about how Egyptians saw them.

The 2nd Wonder of the World – Christ Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro

The Christ Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is a stunning mix of religion and architecture. It’s so beautiful that it was voted one of the seven wonders of modern times. At 125 meters tall and 46 meters wide, it is quite an impressive structure.

It’s even more awesome to see up close when you learn more about how it got made. But its size isn’t what makes it amazing. No, its real beauty lies in its incredible history and message for all who come to see it today.

Here are some interesting facts about one of the seven wonders of our world! The Christ Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro stands 125 meters (410 feet) high and is located at Corcovado Mountain. Construction began on February 12th, 1922, and was completed on October 12th, 1931.

It took approximately 14 years to build because of numerous interruptions such as strikes by workers or material shortages during WWII. This leads many people to believe that construction on the fort began during another time period than 1922-1931.

However, there is no evidence supporting any other possible time range

The 3rd Wonder of the World – Petra, Jordan

Known as The Rose Red City, Petra is widely regarded as one of humankind’s greatest architectural wonders.

Made famous by Indiana Jones, what most people don’t know is that Petra was carved out of rock almost 2,000 years ago as a place to worship ajuba (The supreme god) and his twin sister, Allat.

This wonder still stands today thanks to its structure; made out of rocks fit together so tightly not even a piece of paper can fit between them.

The 4th Wonder of the World – The Taj Mahal in Agra, India

The Taj Mahal is a white marble mausoleum located in Agra, India. The tomb was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife and favorite queen, Mumtaz Mahal. Her name translates to the one preferred above all others.

Legend has it that Mumtaz died while giving birth to her 14th child and as part of their marriage contract she was buried next to her husband. To honor her memory, he commissioned a magnificent monument that stands today as one of the seven wonders of the world.

It took 20 years to build and cost approximately 32 million rupees – an astronomical sum at that time.
It’s helpful to examine other feats at thetime tooo gauge just how remarkable Notre Dame was.

Construction began in 1631 and wasn’t completed until 1653. Weapons like muskets and cannons were primitive at the time.

Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Incan settlement that has been clinging to a high Andean mountain ridge. It is surrounded by cliffs and a variety of lush greenery.

Cusco was ordered to be built by Emperor Pachacuti, a descendant of Inti, god of sun and war. It is named after an ancient Indian word that means old peak or old mountain.

The 6th Wonder of the World – Colosseum in Rome, Italy

The Colosseum, also known as The Flavian Amphitheatre, is a symbol of Rome that even non-history lovers can recognize.

This amphitheater was built in 80 AD by Emperor Vespasian and has been standing since! There are 8 entrances to the stadium, two being located on each end. Each entrance has two arches which served as both decoration and support for spectators as they entered or exited from their seats.

As you enter through one of these archways, you’ll notice an inscription above your head that reads The emperor Titus Vespasianus Augustus erected (this) for shows and games giving enjoyment to himself and his friends.

Today, it’s still used as a venue for sporting events and concerts. It is visited by over 4 million people every year!

The 7th Wonder of the World – Great Wall Of China

The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China to protect against invasion by various nomadic groups.

It served as a military defense for several hundred years. Although it was historically difficult to penetrate and evade at times due to its size and length, it was not a continuous wall but consisted of many smaller walls constructed at intervals.

There are said to be over 20,000 km (12,000 miles) of the wall in total; however, that number varies depending on how one defines the wall. The majority of construction in the temple took place during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644).
Along with its defensive function, sections of the Great Wall served as border barriers for past Chinese dynasties.
